Racing Has Lost A Friend

BUTLER, PA. 5/2/08 - RACING HAS LOST A FRIEND….Linda McMillin died Friday afternoon, May 2, in the Butler (Pennsylvania) Hospital after a very short stay. In 1983, her family purchased Sharon Speedway in Hartford OH and she co-promoted the track along with her brother Ed Skillman. Except for two times when the track was leased for short periods, they promoted weekly racing until 2002 when they sold the track to Dave Blaney and his partners. In addition, she and her husband Dave worked many tracks connected with Ohio’s All Star Sprint Speedweek such as Wayne County, KC Raceway, Skyline, Raceway 7, Fremont, etc. Linda and Dave had also worked the special winter events in Florida at both the East Bay Winternationals in Tampa and Speedweeks at Volusia Speedway Park near Daytona. Also, they were heavily involved in motorcycle scrambles at Switchback (north of Butler), Steel Valley (Delmont) and Mountaineer Raceway Park (Chester WV). Many race drivers and crews will remember her as the friendly face at the pit window, where she sold pit passes at Lernerville Speedway for the first two races this year. She had an embroidery business in her home for many years known as “Sew What Embroidery”. Linda is survived by her husband Dave, their daughter Tracy, their son Shane and his wife Ruth and their son Dash, the only grandchild, and her brother Ed Skillman. Viewing is set for Sunday from 2:00-to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00PM at Young Funeral Home, 127 Jefferson St., Butler PA where a service will be held at 10:00AM Monday. Cards may be sent to the family at 207 Freeport Road, Butler PA 16002.
