Early Update For The Weekend

When I wrote my last post I had no idea it would be a self prophetic message, but as we serve God, we should always be ready for a surprise or two.

The phone began to ring and the call of God began to demand answers. I have learned many things in my life time but the most important is to always say yes to God’s voice even though it may not be convenient. After all, it was not convenient for Jesus to go to the cross.

This was going to be a short weekend because Mercer had a scheduled night off. I had some plans to fill the time but nothing concrete. Then came a request to conduct a funeral service for a man I did not know, and my answer was, you guessed it, yes.

The first thing my spiritual father told me was that when there is a death, anything else you have planned should take second place. I have always remembered that advice.

When we obey God in all things it is amazing the blessings he sends us. This turned out to be a great blessing. The man that had passed away was an avid race fan and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Sr. and his favorite singer was Johnny Cash. I found this amazing because they both have been on the top of my list for years. I have heard it said many times how hard it is to do a service for someone you have never met.

May I ask you a question, how difficult is it to talk about your favorite subject?

Jesus should be your favorite subject, and sharing him with those at the service should be very easy. Or are we more concerned with how good we will look to those attending instead of being concerned with sharing the good news of eternal life. That can be the best comfort for those who are in sorrow.

I have been blessed by the call of God on my life, and I want to share that joy with everyone, everywhere, anytime. He is the most important factor in my life and should be the same in yours. Race tracks or funerals, it really comes down to the scripture that says if you deny me before men I will deny you before my father. The choice is yours, please make the right choice.

In Christ,
Chaplain Bill
