« What Is Important In Life? | Home | Preparing for another busy week. »
The term ‘multitasking‘ is one I have used many times but only recently has it become reality. I am not sure it is the best scenario for our lives?
I will begin by saying this is not meant to be a post to get sympathy, but only a statement of facts in my life, so please don’t feel sorry for me or for anyone in this same situation.
When I was a little kid one of my favorite things that I wanted to do was juggle. It looked so exciting when they kept adding more items and some how kept them all in motion. But wait…
As the saying goes there’s more. If I would have been more observant, and not so intrigued, I would have realized some very important things about juggling.
The first thing I should have realized was there are only so many thing you can keep going before one falls and then it is not long until you must pick up all the pieces and start over.
Starting over is probably the most difficult thing we have to do, but one of the most important issues in our lives. Once we start again, we must learn how many things we can juggle. If we add one too many, too soon, and without the proper preparation, we will, without fail, lose control of everything – multitasking at its worst.
I started 2009 with a very controllable juggling act, only to have many items added to the act. Many of the items added were great for those watching, but to the one doing the labor it became increasingly more difficult to keep everything in proper rotation.
My question to you is, are you juggling more than you should? And if you are, are you willing to set aside that one thing that has become difficult to keep the rest of the act intact or would you rather drop everything and have to start over?
Priorities are very important if we desire to excel. I am now learning to look more quickly at my priorities, and adjust. To excel as a Chaplain in this day of mega and instant ministries, I am finding that many times less is more and I am trying to do more with less in order to be fresh and strong all the time, and not tired and worn out.
I have picked up most all of the items I dropped, and they are much easier to manage now. Odd shaped items are very hard to handle and so we can only juggle a few.
Happy July
