Supporting the racing family .

November 23, 2008

I was ask more than once recently what do you do when the races are over for the season at first I thought dont they know then I realized they were serious and any quick remark would not be right so I said read my web site.

Races are only a small part of the Chaplain call this is the time when I can spend time in different ways and still be effective for Jesus ,which after all is the prime reason for a chaplain.

Last week I wrote about Pappy Kerr he is home but still needs prayer, then yesterday I found out about Ed Cornell and his very serious accident and with the help of Jim Balintine I was able to go see him at the hospital in Greenville Pa he has some serious leg injuries and will undergo surgery Monday to have some metal rods put in ,I was really blessed to see Ed and lift him up in prayer will you please do the same.

Today after church we drove to Saxonburg Pa for Moose Polena and a fund raiser for him it was very well attended and I am sure he will be blessed big time seeing all those race people only proved to me I am at last in the right place for doing Gods work ,while we ate Dean Byers shared that Wes Osborne was back in the hospital please pray for Wes he is fighting a big fight and he needs us to help.

Last but certainly not least Carl Bowser sat with me as he waited to help serve and told me some good news about he and his Dad Terry seems they will have a very exciting news to announce soon ,when I get the details from them I will post it here.

The season of blessing is really coming quickly and if we keep our focus on the real reason for this season I am sure you will get the best gifts you could hope for, as I talked with Ed Cornell,my brotherinlaw Tom ,Moose and others they all made statments like we really know how blessed we are and what a reality check a sudden illness or accident will have on your life,I know they are thankful to be able to be here and will never see life as before.

Once again I am reminded the time to share the Gospel is any time I have breath and there are ears to hear I am aware many ears only hear and not really understand the necessity for having a personal relationshp with Jesus my responsibility is to tell you and leave the rest to the Holy Spirit .

I wish you could go with me as I hear time after time stories of how God has protected that is part of it the finial step is truly following Jesus, wont you give it a chance.

What does thanksgiving mean too you ?

November 22, 2008

The question asked in this post is one we all should think about every day not just once a year but every day of your life .

I will be the first to admit there are times it is diffiult for me to be thankful this is usually when eveything I want seems to be going wrong ,all the more reason to thank God for his past blessings on my life and thank him for those in my future ,if we will be faithful to give him thanks he will be faithful to us.

When I was growing up I was  taught to allways say thank you and when I did the response from the one I thanked was positive, try thanking God this season and then continue for the rest of your life and see what he will do.

Pappy Kerr is home from the hospital and still in need of prayer his address is Paul Kerr 2044 Thalia youngstown ohio zip ? a card would be nice Iheard Ed Cornell has been in a serious accident if anyone knows what hospital he is in please contact me in the mean time pray for Ed and his family.

We will be going too the Moose Polena benefit tomorrow I hope you will support the racing family in your area when you can it is one of the perks of being in the racing family we care about each other and it really has nothing to do with who you are or what you drive  it is simply caring for one another when we are in need.

Have a great weekend and remember life here is temporary your real goal is to spend eternity with Jesus if you want to know how ask I will help you why because I was in the same place once myself.

  Hoping to hear from you.

A perfect example of the racing family.

November 18, 2008

This past weekend I received two phone calls about a member of our local racing community who had been taken to the hospital with some serious health issues. He is one of my regular Saturday night buddies in the pits at Mercer every week. We have a great time talking about days past, as well as the new stuff; he is a wealth of information and needs to be listened to.

When I got to his hospital room he was sitting there with a big smile and a warm greeting. He looked good and said he was doing well. On the other side of the room was his son, wearing his big smile and with racing attitude, he expressed the fact they were making headway. The conversation from that point on was true “track talk.”

As would be expected, most everything revolved around racing. When I asked the son what he had been doing, he told me his daughters were in Karts, and then his dad began telling me how much he enjoyed going to the Kart races, encouraging the kids, and how they reacted to his words. The son said he had even driven a Kart and enjoyed it, but thought his job was to keep his kids racing.

Now I’ve rambled on for a long time, and have not mentioned any names; I think now is the time. This is a family of three generations of racers, and that is what racing family means to me. Most of you will know at least one of the Kerr family: Grandpa Pappy Kerr, PJ Kerr, and now PJ’s daughters. Family as it should be: passing on all you have and all you know so your life will be remembered for a long long time.

Pappy has been in the Youngstown area for many years and is one of the godfathers of speed in this area. PJ is a very talented driver and tuner. His brother Lester is involved in racing also, and now the girls continue the long tradition of racing. It really makes no difference what you drive only do you drive or support those that do. I really look forward to seeing three generations of Kerrs at the Kart Races, reveling in the joy of being a true racing family, from age 14 to 86.

When I was ready to leave we prayed and asked God to keep this family together for a long time, to be an example of love shared through generations. If you are part of a family don’t let anything separate that family. And as Christians, find a common interest like a good church to keep you together.

Last, and not least, Pappy, thank you for years of joy and real friendship. And PJ, the same goes for you. And all the rest of the Kerr family, see you at the reunion this summer.

   Your adopted relative ,
